2015 Recitals and String Festival

Thanks to everyone involved.   It is a joy to work with such wonderful students and families.  It has been a marathon with recitals and String Festival and the students all made good progress.  If you have photos to add I would love to include them.  Send to me by email please.

Pleased to reconnect with Laura and Eduard Schmieder at the national American String Teachers Association Convention.  He was one of my teachers when we lived in Texas and he had first arrived in the United States.
There were eight Gold Cups in my studio this year, including 3rd cups for the Kanells of Beaver, but only one of  my students was able to attend the Cedar Gold Cup recital.  There are always so many conflicting activities it's hard to fit in everything.

It's wonderful to have a former student, Marin Colby, take leadership of the String Festival and be teaching her own students.

Practice Trophies and Other Practice Ideas

Practice Trophies: Below are just a few of the more recent students who have earned a practice trophy.  You are always welcome to join this program.  100 days of practice in a row.  200 days in a row is a bigger trophy.  1 year is even bigger.  Karaly Carter had six years when she was involved in Suzuki Strings.

If traveling or instrument in danger you may listen to professional recordings instead of actual on instrument practice.

If ill then again listening to professional recordings will count.

You may prefer your own family trophy plan, perhaps six days a week for four months.
You can get trophies at Gem Awards.

Play for Seniors:  Emerald Pointe and Kolob both enjoy having music available for dinner music or other events.  Call to schedule in advance.  Sharing your music with neighbors, family, and friends is a great gift of your time and talents.

Be a Movie Star:  Take a video every six months of a polished piece.  You will be able to document your progress and then you can share with family and friends.  Right after String Festival is a good time because the pieces are polished and the pressure is off.

Have a Practice Buddy:  Review, try some duets, and enjoy making music together.  My daughter and her friend had a cello duo which played for community events.  Both of my children had string quartets which performed regularly and I have been in a string quartet for nearly 30 years.

Look for Community Performance Opportunities:  We have played for business open houses, wedding receptions, dinners, family reunions, OSU lobby music, and in community recitals.  For those under 18 there is the Groovekids performance in June and applications will be available in April.
